Rebel R-41s participated in some of the earliest actions against the Empire, scoring several important early victories, however it was quickly discovered that the type's only average maneuverability put it at a disadvantage against the new TIE/LN fighters then coming into service.

Being sold off cheap, a fair number of R-41s were acquired by groups that would later combine to form the Alliance to Restore the Republic.

The R-41 Starchaser served through the Clone Wars, and was phased out of Imperial inventory soon after the war's end. Once the light deflector screens go down, it only takes one or two hits to cause the Starchaser to undergo what is known as a dramatic in-flight disassembly. The R-41's main shortcoming, aside from having to compete with the excellent Z-95, is a weak hull design which skimped on armor and internal bracing. Though not as maneuverable as most of its contemporaries, the Starchaser is capable of fighting modern starfighters with a competent pilot behind the stick. Capable of 100 MGLT and boasting a class 2 hyperdrive with an onboard navicomputer, it also has shields, twin light laser cannons, a two-shot concussion missile launcher and, perhaps most notably, a pair of light ion cannons, deadly against Clone Wars-era droid starfighters and still quite useful for disabling enemy ships. The R-41 Starchaser has decent specifications for a Clone Wars-era design. Though it was produced in respectable numbers, owing mainly to the shear demand for starfighters during the Clone Wars, nobody hears much about the Starchaser in discussions of the Galaxy's greatest snubfighters. Though a match for the Headhunter on flimsiplast, the Starchaser had a number of shortcomings that kept it from achieving the renown of its biggest rival. DESCRIPTIONThe R-41 Starchaser is a multi-role starfighter that was produced by Hoersch-Kessel Drive Incorporated as a competitor to the Z-95 Headhunter, a versatile combat craft developed jointly by the Incom and Subpro corporations.
